A mural by Lawrence Weiner, the preserved Allegory of Fame and a presentation on the Virgin of Antwerp by the MAS are also part of Zaal AthenA’s permanent art collection.

Discover our history

On the night of January 14-15, 2004, a fire broke out in the Royal Athenaeum. The flames rose high from the roof; it was one big blaze. The extinguishing took all night and the next day. The entire decor of the hall, with nine allegorical representations of art and science, went down with the fire. Only one work was saved, the Allegory of Fame. Since May 2014, there has also been an “Allegory of Doubt.
